With China being torn apart by civil strife along with heavy taxes and threats from the northern people causing a massive burden on the people therefore the new dynasty being a refreshing change (Butler, 2007).The main goal of this dynasty was develop a form of centralised power to ensure order without the use of extreme measures which proved to be quite difficult at times (Ebrey, 1996) .The Han dynasty involved the reversing the harsh oppressive laws and systems executed such as forced labour rules, continued building the great wall and restoring the many classics that had been destroyed (Butler, 2007) . Science and technology flourished which lead the amazing discovery’s such as the sun dial, acupuncture, water clocks and new forms of literature (Butler, 2007) .The Han did however continue many of Qin’s principals such as aristocrats being appointed for their merit and not their birth rights (Ebrey, 1996) .These aristocrats were entitled to watch over the troops, the economy and most important the education system which played a major role in the success and growth of the Han (Ebrey, 1996).
